The 26th Annual Godfather Invitational Golf Tournament was recently held at Clarksville Country Club as part of the 2019 Clarksville-Montgomery County Warrior Week.
Phil Harpel is in charge of Military and Government Relations for the Clarksville Area Chamber of Commerce, organizer of the event. He spoke of its origins and purpose.
“We've held this event for 26 years now,” Harpel said. “It's named for Colonel Art Lombardi, a highly decorated veteran of three wars, WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. He was known as 'The Godfather'. We don't do this to raise money. This tournament is an opportunity for us to get some Fort Campbell soldiers to come out and play a course they might not have had a chance to play before.”
This year's roster boasted 19 teams, playing in a 4-man scramble format. And, the golfers enjoyed an absolutely perfect spring day on the course.
The Chamber's annual Warrior Week is a celebration of service members and their families. Events can include a movie night for soldiers and their families, the golf tournament, and a highly competitive Tobacco Stick softball game, a showdown between a Clarksville-Montgomery County Community team and the always-talented Fort Campbell Soldiers team.
