Relay for Life of Montgomery County hosted its annual American Cancer Society fundraiser, this year's event took place at Governor's Square Mall.
Melissa Hogan is Co-Chair of Montgomery County Relay For Life 2019. “This year, we are closing the book on cancer,” Hogan said. “We have several teams registered to walk, and about 40 vendors set up on site. This is going to be a great day.”
Hogan took a moment to thank Gateway Vanderbilt, as well as Governor's Square Mall, and all the sponsors and volunteers who contributed to the success of this campaign.
“Clarksville Fire and Rescue has been a huge help to us this year,” Hogan said. “LG has donated products. We are playing a game of Penny Wars, where the losers will get dunked in a dunking booth. We are hoping to raise $120,000 throughout the campaign. People will still be able to contribute for another month or two, so hopefully we will get there.”
At 5 p.m. the Survivor/Caregiver Walk began. Anyone who has dealt with cancer was invited to participate. They were cheered on by supporters and loved-ones as they walked. At 8 p.m. the Luminaria Ceremony began. Each light represented a life taken by cancer, a survivor, or support for a person still fighting the disease. The closing ceremony took place at 9 p.m.
