March 2019 Engaged Couple of the Month

Having first met in college at the University of Tennessee at Martin, it wasn’t until Megan McKeen and Chris Benne started dating a few years later that they realized they were truly soul mates. And after four and a half years together, it seemed that the greatest gift Chris could give Megan was his heart, though the path to proposing is not always without a few complications along the way…

“I almost ruined it!” Megan laughs. “Chris decided he was going to propose on my 30th birthday; and I had planned a get-together with our friends to celebrate, so he had to move on to plan #2. I had to run an errand before we left for dinner in Nashville; and while I was gone, he called and said he had driven our dog Zeus over for a walk down at the Riverwalk in downtown Clarksville and that his tire had ‘gone flat.’ When I arrived to pick them up, I called to say I was there. He still wanted us to take a walk, but I didn’t have a jacket and was cold. To convince me to get out of the car, he gave me his jacket…Looking back, he was fumbling with that jacket quite a bit before handing it over! We walked down a little closer to the river, where he started ‘the speech.’ I may have blacked out a little, because I don’t remember everything he said; but I knew that this was THE MOMENT. After his sweet words, he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him!”

Now planning an October wedding at East Ivy Mansion in Nashville, Megan is happily flashing the beautiful ring that Chris chose for her at McKenzie & Smiley. "Chris knew that they’re the number one jeweler in this area. Their customer service is second to none, and ALL of their rings were beautiful. He chose my ring because it blended a vintage look with gorgeous diamonds and a hint of rose gold. He did a wonderful job!”
