Since 1989, the Love Lights a Tree event has been an annual fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. For the past two years, Tennova Healthcare has been the host for the event and has had the ceremonial tree in front of their main hospital. Every year, more and more guests arrive to see then lighting of the tree, which is done by an honorary chairman. The chairman is someone who has been directly affected by cancer, and this year’s Honorary Chairman was a gentleman that the community knows personally-- Mike Robinson. He was surprised at the event with the honorary title, and after the flick of a switch, lit the Christmas tree, which had thousands of lights.
The Immaculate Conception Choir was there singing Christmas songs for everyone to enjoy, and Tennova Healthcare graciously provided refreshments. This is one of the biggest fundraisers of the year for the local American Cancer Society and has been one of the longest running traditions for many local families.
