Sango's Food Initiative Farm was recently filled with the sights and sounds of spring, as well as some great food and music, as Michael and Regina Hampton hosted their annual Hog Roast Hootenanny.
"This is our 3rd Hog Roast,” Michael Hampton said. “This is something we do so that people from the community can come out, tour the farm, and see what we have going on out here.” Hampton, with the help of some friends and volunteer staff, roasted a whole hog that was raised on the farm, then served it up with some great side items. A tent was set up with tables and chairs to accommodate most guests.
There was additional seating in an area where a variety of games were set up for the kids. There was also a stage, where Jacob Johnson performed, thanks to a sponsorship from Journey's Eye. Everything was just a short walk from fenced areas where chickens, pigs and goats could be visited.
“It's a time to hang out, build community, and enjoy some good food,” Hampton said. “I would estimate 150 - 175 are here with us today. All of today's proceeds go back into our operating fund, which helps us carry on the programs that we offer for local high school students."
