7th Annual Community C.A.R.E.S. Walk & Expo

The 7th Annual Community C.A.R.E.S. Walk & Expo recently took place at Liberty Park.

C.A.R.E.S. is an acronym for Community Advocating Resources for Every Special Citizen, and each year it connects special needs families with qualified service providers in the area.

“This year we have more than 60 vendors,” Trish Hannah said. “I'm not sure how many walkers participated, but a good day was had by all. It's always a fun morning, from the start to registration, to the stretches, and then the countdown, which is followed by a 1-mile walk for health and wellness. After the walk, everyone comes back to enjoy some free food and a fantastic silent acution. It's a great example of people coming together to create a welcoming special needs community.”

“Clarksville Association for Down Syndrome (CADS) organizes the event,” Hannah said. “The funds raised go back into the program so we can offer free programs to the special needs community. We partner with Clarksville Parks & Recreation. We also offer Technology for Teachers, andwe host monthly meetings for our families. We are working on opening a clubhouse to accommodate members of the special needs community so we can offer all of these programs under our own roof.”
