Sandy Wooten, Tennova's Director of Volunteer Services, spoke about the purpose of the event. “We've held this tournament for more than 20 years,” Wooten said. It is sponsored by our volunteer auxiliary, which is a non- profit organization, and all of the money we've raised helps fund Camp Willow Creek, a grief counseling camp for kids.”
The camp is organized by Tennova Hospice, which is free to all children of hospice patients as well as other children in the community who have lost a parent, sibling or grandparent.
“We had14 teams and a total of 56 golfers this year,” Wooten said. “We also had many sponsors from this community and all around Middle Tennessee. This year's master sponsor was Gateway Vanderbilt Cancer Treatment Center. Thanks to everyone's generous support, we will probably raise more than $22,000 for Camp Willow Creek.”
Camp Willow Creek is located in the Brandon Springs area of Land Between the Lakes. Activities like swimming and fishing are offered at the 3-day camp with a tremendous focus on remembrance and grief counseling. For more information, go to www.campwillowcreek.org.
