Museums of Historic Hopkinsville-Christian County recently hosted a party to raise funds for a major renovation of its Pennyroyal Area Museum.
Alissa Keller, Executive Director of MHHCC, took a moment from party preparations to speak about the event. “We are standing here in the Pennyroyal Area Museum,” Keller said. “It's been here since 1976. The building was formerly a post office that was built in 1914. We are about to undergo a major renovation, so everything is in temporary storage. We're in the process of renovating and fabricating a new exhibit space. We'll be moving everything back in in 2019, but we thought while everything is empty we might as well have a party.”
The party's theme was Motown at the Museum, which featured music by the band Motown Sounds of Touch, a 10-piece band from Dayton, Ohio. About 200 guests attended the event. “We actually don't have enough seats for everybody, but that's intentional,” Keller said. “We want to see everybody up and dancing!”
