West TN First Lego League Clarksville Qualifier

The First Lego League brought its Hydro Dynamics Challenge to local students at a recent event at APSU. Students were challenged to think like scientists and engineers while learning all about water – how to find, transport, use or dispose of it. Nick DuBee, a Northeast High School STEM teacher, was the tournament manager for the local event that featured local middle school teams. “TVA was one of the major sponsors of this event,” DuBee said. “They have offered funding and support to 14 local middle school teams that are now competing in this water-based challenge. Each team was given the task of building a robot, and they to completed various challenges on a flat mat.” In August, FLL published the detailed challenge missions for the FLL Robot Game and FLL Research Project on their website. “Our students built a project around water conservation and how to effectively use water,” DuBee said. “They’ve worked on their projects for the last several weeks. On the day of the competition the students found out which teams will advance to the next level of competition that will be held in Memphis.”
