Friending someone on Facebook might not usually lead to anything more than upping your “Friend” count, but when Kattie Johnson reached out to an old friend she’d lost touch with after high school to send him a “Friend Request,” her life started taking a new direction that would eventually lead to a very different status.
Kattie’s re-acquaintance with Ethan Koehler in 2015 was a whirlwind born of a friendship that had always been easy. But as Kattie says, “Being ‘just friends’ only lasted about a week… and the rest is history!” To follow their feed might show the transition of their relationship as the pair knew quickly that they were destined for something more. And while Ethan might have insisted on a philosophy that couples must weather a full “four seasons” together before getting engaged, Kattie’s heart was his forever before their very first season had come to a close.
Like the leaves falling all around them, Ethan had also fallen for Kattie; and during a trip to Gatlinburg in October 2016, Ethan’s sense of spontaneity won out when he popped the question and asked Kattie to marry him as they stood in front of a Texas Roadhouse. “It was all Ethan—not planned, totally spontaneous and carefree—and it was perfect,” Kattie recalls.
Wanting their guests to experience a true taste of Kentucky, when Kattie and Ethan united their lives and forever updated their status from single to married, they joined their friends and family at Southern Springs Events in Cadiz, Kentucky, to exchange their vows under a canopy of trees with the breathtaking beauty of the countryside all around them. Wearing an A-line silk-faille gown with a dotted-Swiss overlay skirt cinched at the waist by a pearl and crystal sash, Kattie walked down the aisle to her husband while their loved ones looked on and wished them well.
After being declared “husband and wide,” the newlyweds joined their guests at a Derby-themed buffet style reception held at Southern Springs that really was all about the love and the luck, an event filled with Derby fun in everything from the favors to the table names. And nothing could have been any more perfect. “Danielle and her team at Southern Springs went above and beyond,” says Kattie. “She never missed a detail, and we were all so amazed by everything!”
Having shared their first dance as Mr. and Mrs. Koehler to “You and Me” by the Dave Matthews Band, Kattie and Ethan headed off for a weeklong honeymoon in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, to enjoy time in the sun and bask in the glow of happiness. Now back at home in Benton, Kentucky, the Koehlers are looking forward to keeping their FaceBook feed filled with nothing but love for the rest of their days.
