The Clarksville 50 + Activity Center was filled with performers, guest speakers, veterans and local citizens for its annual Veterans Day event.
Diana Akin is the activity center’s Program Director, who also coordinates its marketing and fundraising.
“Our goal is to present a program that celebrates our veterans, and we have booths at this event with people presenting a variety of resources that may be available to the veterans. “We have programs that include education, housing, health and recreation--all types of veterans benefits,” Akin said.
Mayor Kim McMillan, Tommy Vallejos and Dr. Gregory Stallworth spoke to at least 200 people who were in attendance. The Ft. Campbell Honor Color Guard presented the colors, and members of the Kenwood High School JROTC performed.
“We hope to do this every year,” Akin said. “We are working on an expansion of the facility that will allow us to accommodate more people at future events. We currently have about 3,000 members and as many as 300 – 500 may come on any given day.”
