FCSC Golf Classic

The Fort Campbell Spouses Club recently hosted its first FCSC Golf Classic at Cole Park, all par of its ongoing effort to fund scholarships in the community.

Hannah Husemann and Kassie Peterson were co-chairs of the tournament, which had 84 golfers in a 4-man scramble format teeing off at an 8 a.m. shotgun start.

“This was our first time hosting a golf tournament,” Husemann said. “In the past we held a crafts fair called Candy Cane Lane, but it wasn’t benefiting the club as we wanted so we thought we would try something new this year.”

“We’ve had a lot of great feedback from the players so far in spite of the chilly weather, and thanks to our sponsors, they are out there playing for some great prizes.”

Sisk Auto Mall was the primary sponsor of the tournament, with a hole-in-one contest that could have resulted in a lucky golfer winning his choice of a Nissan Rogue, a Honda Accord, or a Jeep Wrangler. Other par-3 holes offered great prize opportunities as well. Items like round trip airfare, a set of Calloway irons, or an HD flat screen television were possible prizes.

“FCSC members play hard, but they work hard too,” said Husemann. “We do this to provide scholarships and welfare grants. That’s what our organization is about. Every fundraising activity we do goes to that purpose, and those investments come back to the community. Students, spouses, and soldiers are eligible to apply for these scholarships. This is  how we give back to the community.”

“The 200 members of FCSC have a good time as they work to help the community,” Husemann said. “Each month the group holds a themed luncheon. The theme in October was Brunch at Tiffany’s and the November meeting had a Nashville theme with local singers/songwriters in attendance.

“Our main fundraiser occurs in the spring when we hold a ‘vice night’ in March,” said Husemann. “It’s a gala with dinner, music and an auction. Last year we raised more than $50,000 for scholarships. We also work with local organizations. In October we donated candy, gift cards, and sports equipment to the Buddy Ball program. Our November efforts will benefit Holiday House.”
