Red Cross Tennessee River Chapter Heroes Luncheon

Joe and Cynthia Pitts recently chaired the Red Cross Tennessee River Chapter Heroes Luncheon, an annual event that recognizes those who support the Red Cross mission in our community. Katy Hagstrom is Executive Director of the local chapter which encompasses 12 middle Tennessee counties. The annual Heroes Luncheon celebrated humanitarian leadership in Clarksville and recognized Pastor Jimmy Terry as the Humanitarian of the Year. Dave Sanderson, a survivor and hero of the Miracle on the Hudson, was the keynote speaker . Sanderson captivated the crowd as he retold the story of US Airways Flight 1549 and Pilot Chesley Sullenberger’s improbable January 15, 2009 landing on the Hudson River that resulted in the survival of all 155 people aboard. He also repeatedly lauded the good people of the Red Cross for the support they gave him and his family throughout that ordeal. Hagstrom said the purpose of the luncheon is to recognize the individuals and corporate sponsors who give to the Red Cross, whether time or treasure, as the real heroes who help them meet their mission in this community and beyond. “Pastor Terry was a huge humanitarian in this community,” Hagstrom said. His widow, Servella, and son, Jimmy Terry Jr. accepted an award on his behalf.

To donate to the American Red Cross, call 1-800-Red-Cross, go to www.redcross.org or text Red Cross to 90999. Hagstrom invites anyone who is interested in the work of the Red Cross to visit their office and discuss volunteering or make a donation in person.
