Known for its calm disposition, smooth gait, and sure-footedness, the Tennessee Walking Horse could almost be the spirit animal for attorney Kevin Kennedy—and the comparison couldn’t be more apt, as the founder of The Kennedy Law Firm, PLLC, has been a skilled breeder and exhibitor of the well-regarded horses since the early eighties.
It’s a passion one might be amazed he has time to pursue, with a daily agenda so stacked with everything he does at the firm, from meeting with new clients and taking their cases to trial to guiding his associates in any way they might need his expertise. And with more than thirty years of working in the legal system, Kennedy certainly has expertise to share.
Since first entering the legal profession in 1984, things have definitely changed—not only in terms of litigation but also in the ways that the law has affected the world. “We live in a society of litigants, and the lifestyle that comes from that demands a legal sophistication in every area of life,” says Kennedy, who has an enhanced attention for criminal and civil litigation with an emphasis in automobile accidents, divorce, and wrongful death cases. “It’s wise for people to make legal knowledge a priority simply so that they can maintain their rights and have a better understanding of those rights.”
A native of Clarksville who lives on a horse farm that has been in his family for more than a century, Kennedy has a passion for the people in his community that comes from loving his hometown and his steadfast Christian faith, coupled with his desire to serve. “My biggest reward as a lawyer comes from making my clients happy and satisfied and seeing people being treated fairly and justly,” says Kennedy, who founded the firm in 1995. “The motto ‘We are committed to helping people’ espouses our mission here, and I really feel that speaks to what Jesus would have us do.”
His love for helping people has certainly not gone unnoticed, as Kennedy has received awards for his humanitarian heart and his good stewardship including recognition as the Montgomery County Citizen of the Year; Clarksville, Tennessee, Citizen of the Year; and Volunteer of the Year.
“People often ask me what kind of attorney they should hire, and I feel that one thing that is paramount in making that decision is trust,” he says. “There’s a powerful bond of loyalty and commitment created between an attorney and his client that can be an overwhelming force to be reckoned with. The Bible says, ‘The wise seek the counsel of others,’ and we’re dedicated to being that wise counsel for our clients. The Bible also says that ‘two are better than one, and a threefold cord is not easily broken’; and so we always recommend hiring a lawyer who has a very strong team.”
As his practice continues to expand and his team builds to include more lovers of the law, Kennedy walks steadily into a future he hopes will see justice served to a greater degree as more people are shown the heart of Christ.
