Cornhole Tournament

More than 32 teams competed in a cornhole tournament at Sports Doctor Athletics indoor sports facility. Adults and kids grabbed a small bag filled with corn, stood 30 feet away and pitched it, or tried to, onto a 4ft x 2 ft board with a hole in it. According to Casey Dickson, co-owner of Sports Doctor, this event is a fund raiser for grass or sod for a new outdoor 200 foot regulation softball field. “We have a volunteer who has graciously donated his time to help with the field” Dickson said. Right now the indoor facility has men’s soccer, indoor batting cages with some instructors, and even football. The Lil Saints, 10, 12, and 14 and under softball groups also train here. “We feel this is good for the community. More team availability to practice and host community events” said Dickson. One Clarksville couple came to compete and have fun. Jeff and Sonya Weston took their positions and while practicing seemed to miss more than hitting the board. While looking down at his partner, Sonya, “We’ll need a lot of luck tonight” laughed Jeff. Just then she put one in the hole without a bounce. “What?!” Sonya said laughing. John and Temesia Perdue drove down from Madisonville, KY just to compete in the event. Well, maybe not just for the event. Their 13 year old daughter trains at the facility and competes with the Lil Saints. “We want to have some fun and show our support for this event” said Temesia.
