Amy & Sam
A Time to Applause
The mutual friends who introduced them might have applauded their success at making a good match, but it was the sounds of strangers clapping that served as the soundtrack to their engagement when Sam King proposed to Amy Rushing along the banks of the Mississippi River in St. Louis on July 31, 2017. And just over a year later, their family and friends were once again given reason to applaud—and shed a few tears—as Amy walked down the aisle at Naimoli Estate on October 6, 2018, wearing a sleeveless V-neck champagne-colored gown with delicate lace detailing to meet her groom, his dirt-caked farmer’s garb replaced by the crisp, handsome look of a man anxiously awaiting the woman he adores.
After exchanging their vows under the gazebo behind the mansion, the newly wedded Kings joined their guests in a reception held in the estate’s spacious barn. “I loved that everything was in one place,” says 27 year-old Amy, a clinical dietician. “I got to stay at the venue all weekend, which made everything really easier.” Simplified by the all-inclusiveness of it though it might have been, there was hardly anything simplistic about the beauty of their chosen venue. “It was so pretty everywhere you looked, and I don’t think we could have asked for better scenery for our photos.”
Having dined on a delicious Italian-inspired spread that included chicken alfredo, lasagna, Caesar salad, and breadsticks catered by the Country Cupboard, the couple got things going on the dance floor, busting out their moves while the live band played. And while most receptions have their sound system at the command of a DJ who takes a break to encourage toasts by the wedding party, it was an impromptu karaoke session by their friends that broke into the chosen set of wedding songs. “It was so funny!” Amy recalls.
Before heading off to their honeymoon, Amy and Sam sliced into a four-tier white wedding cake adorned with burgundy flowers created by the talented baker, Jan Dixon, leaving their celebration on a sweet note as they—once again—heard the sounds of happy applause.
